JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man already behind bars at the Duval County Jail faces new charges, including second-degree murder, in connection to a deadly shooting that happened at an apartment complex on Jacksonville's Westside last month, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.

Muhammad Thomas, 22, faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, shooting or throwing deadly missiles and tampering with evidence in connection to the shooting, jail records show.

Amarion Mitchell, 22, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the May 26 shooting at Westwood Apartments , and was taken to a local hospital by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department afterward in critical condition.
