BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti was amused by a question about his backup quarterback situation coming out of spring practice while talking to reporters at a recent booster event.

"I'm more concerned about the starter being able to win games, right now,” Cignetti said with a smile. “He's going to play the most snaps for me, right?”

Last year, Cignetti was reluctant to talk about a pecking order at the position while Kurtis Rourke and Tayven Jackson competed for the starting job. He’s approached things a bit differently this spring after signing former Cal transfer Fernando Mendoza , the No. 4-rated quarterback in this year’s transfer class, and referred to him as the expected starter throughout camp.
