LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo - A man who reportedly shot a Lee's Summit police officer is now in custody.
Authorities were able to arrest 27-year-old Thomas Tolbert this morning in Ellis, Kansas. Lee's Summit Police had confronted Tolbert late Sunday night at a residence in the 3500 block of Southwest Hollywood Drive for an alleged domestic assault. Tolbert attempted to flee the scene and fired multiple shots injuring a responding officer who remains hospitalized.
He is facing charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and second-degree domestic assault in the case.
