EXETER — A woman was fatally struck by an Amtrak train June 2 after she and a friend saved a dog they were walking near the tracks, according to police.

Alicia Leonardi, 42, of Plaistow, was walking with her friend and an unleashed dog near the wooded area of the train tracks outbound from the Newfields Road trestle, Exeter Police Chief Stephan Poulin announced June 3 in a press release. He stated Exeter police and fire were called at approximately 3:24 p.m. with a report two pedestrians were hit by the train.
