LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska State Patrol is raising awareness about multiple overdose cases in southwest Nebraska.

In the last three days, there have been two overdose cases in McCook and Culbertson. The city and the village are about 17 minutes apart.

NSP is in contact with several local agencies to see if there is a connection between the cases. Both cases are believed to involve similar counterfeit pills, made to look like legitimate prescription pills. Investigators believe the pills contain synthetic opioids which can be lethal with a very small dose.

The case in McCook resulted in the death of a 22-year-old female, NSP said. The McCook Police Department is the investigating agency in that case.
