HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. -- Action News Now has confirmed that an employee of a Caltrans contractor who was working on the Swimmer's Delight slide on Highway 36 in Humboldt County was killed during an active slide.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death. They said the death at the slide site occurred Saturday morning at approximately 5:15 a.m. on the highway east of Swimmer's Delight.
As of Sunday morning, Highway 36 is still closed in that location. It is not known when it will be reopened.
A Caltrans official said, "We extend our sincere condolences to the worker’s family and friends and all who knew and worked with him."
