SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- The mayor of Savannah spoke out about the police department's use of force policy Tuesday after he was made aware of an incident involving officers and two suspects.
While Mayor Van Johnson wouldn't name the specific incident he was referencing, WSAV confirmed that the incident under investigation took place on May 20, 2025 at the McDonald's located on 2025 Skidaway Rd.
The incident report showed that several officers responded to a 911 call alleging a man was armed with two metal pipes.
According to the report, the suspects were resisting arrest. One officer specified that the mother was using her body weight to try and pull away from one of the officers. Another officer then grabbed the mother by the upper body and executed a "controlled takedown."
