RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Fraud text messages claiming to be from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles are making the rounds again.

According to NCDMV, the scam texts "falsely claim to request payment for fees, fines or tolls and may appear to come from the NCDMV."

In addition to requests for payments, they also include language threatening consequences such as the suspension of the victim's vehicle registration and driver's license if the fee isn't paid.

"NCDMV does not and will never request payments via text message," the agency emphasized, urging customers to be cautions of messages asking for money or personal information and to verify requests "through official channels."
