BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — Five people were taken to a hospital after a house fire in Burlington Tuesday afternoon, according to a Burlington Police Department news release.

Burlington firefighters said they responded to a house fire on South Beaumont Avenue at 12:43 p.m.

According to the department, arriving firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the front right side of the house and were told everyone inside had evacuated. Firefighters searched the house and didn't find anyone inside.

The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. Hot spots were then put out for another 30 minutes, according to the department.

The department said four adults and one child were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
