In an apparent reversal of standing policy, Metro Police have signed a memorandum of agreement to revive the department’s partnership with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

The new 287(g) agreement is under the Warrant Service Officer program, which enables local officers to execute administrative warrants for people already in jail. There will be “no additional changes” to Metro’s immigration policy, a department spokesperson told the Sun.

“Once approved, Clark County Detention Services Division officers will be trained, and an implementation period will ensue,” the spokesperson said. “When an inmate is prepared for release, officers inside the Clark County Detention Center will serve an ICE warrant on the inmate and hold them for no more than 48 (additional) hours.”
