EAGAN, Minn. — Prior to his passing, late Minnesota Vikings coach Bud Grant described former defensive end Jim Marshall as the "greatest Viking" in team history.
"If you took all the Vikings, and took all of the top 25 Vikings and made a magazine or catalog and put all their pictures in and their history — these are the greatest Vikings," Grant said during a 2022 interview. "The guy on the cover of that magazine would be Jim Marshall."
Inside the locker room, Marshall was a leader. In 19 years with Minnesota, he never missed a practice or game. His 270 consecutive games played earned him the title of the NFL's "Iron Man."
On Tuesday, several former Vikings spoke about Marshall's legacy after the team announced his death following a long hospitalization. He was 87.
