A shooting in Toronto's Lawrence Heights neighborhood has left one man dead and five others injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening around 8:40 p.m., near the Yorkdale Shopping Centre. Police responded to reports of gunfire in a residential area close to Flemington Road and Zachary Court.
Toronto police confirmed that the victims, aged between 18 and 40, were transported to local hospitals. Their injuries range from serious to life-threatening, with one man succumbing to his wounds. Paramedics reported that among the injured, there are five men and one woman.
Nicole Rodrigues, deputy commander for Toronto Paramedic Services, stated that paramedics were dispatched to two separate scenes. One was located on Zachary Court, while the other was on New Heights Court, near Turtle Island Road. Rodrigues emphasized the complexity of the situation, noting that multiple victims were involved.
Constable Ashley Visser, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, described the scene as extensive. "Many people are involved, and the scene is large," she said. Police have established a command post under the overpass at Ranee Avenue and Allen Road to manage the investigation.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her concern over the incident, stating she was "disturbed" by the news. She mentioned that her office is in contact with the police and local officials as the investigation unfolds.
