When Eddie Reese was named Cardinal Mooney’s head baseball coach before the 2022 season, he had his sights set on bringing the Cardinals back to district title games and, hopefully, winning them.

Mission accomplished.

For the first time in 12 years, Mooney baseball won a district championship, doing so with a 9-0 shutout vs. Keystone last Friday.

“It’s a great feeling,” Reese said. “It’s great to put a banner in that gym so those guys will always remember it.”

The current Cardinals probably don’t remember the last one. Back in 2013, Mooney defeated Struthers in the district final before ultimately falling in the regional championship game to Archbishop Hoban.
