The cross-country friendship between Alicia Chandler and the 10-year-old Amaya Harvey’s family in Connecticut began during the pandemic.

Through an organization called Families In Need, Chandler learned that Amaya was battling a rare form of leukemia and wanted to organize some kind of fundraiser to help the girl’s family cope with staggering medical expenses.

The pandemic made that impossible, but Chandler stayed in touch with Amaya’s mother, Trish Hewitt, over the last couple years and on Saturday, June 7, she’ll get to finally do that fundraiser.

With the help of Fitness 1440 owner Carter Alcock in Gilbert, Chandler, who has since formed a charity called Power for a Purpose (P4), is sponsoring a unique kind of fundraiser – partly on a golf simulator.
