HAMILTON - The MHSAA Division 2 state track championships felt more like the Harper Creek Invitational with the Beavers sending 19 athletes in 13 events to Hamilton High School on Saturday, May 31.
Harper Creek's large contingent had a good showing, especially on the top of the podium.
The Beavers made history as Harper Creek had a two-event state champion in track for the first time ever at the school.
Harper Creek junior DJ Wood was state champion in the 110-meter hurdles, taking first in a time of 14.15. Wood also won the 300 hurdles in 39.24. Wood set school records in both events, breaking his own marks set previously this season.
