A contractor will soon start work on two new pedestrian bridges in Munster and Highland, though residents should not expect to see the structures go up for a matter of months.
The Town of Munster, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation, plans to build bridges over Hart Ditch and Cady Marsh Ditch, allowing pedestrians and cyclists easier access to neighboring Highland. The two waterways, along with Schoon Ditch, merge just west of Highland's Brantwood Park.
The long-awaited "Bridges Over Ditches" project will allow the existing Fisher Street Trail to be extended to the east to meet Lincoln Street in Highland. A new perpendicular trail branch running south to Martha Street between Hart Ditch and Cady Marsh Ditch is also planned.
