Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot Saturday night in Springfield as Trey Palmer, a 27-year-old from Chicopee.

Around 9:20 p.m., police investigated a report of shots fired at Pearl and Chestnut streets, police said in a statement .

They arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound a short distance away on Bridge Street, police said.

Palmer was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he died from his injuries that night, police said.

The Springfield Police Department’s homicide unit and the Hampden District Attorney’s murder unit are investigating the shooting.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, authorities said.
