LOS ANGELES – An investigation is underway Wednesday regarding a fatal shooting by Los Angeles Police Department officers of an armed suspect during a confrontation in the Harvard Heights neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

LAPD officers from the department’s Olympic Division responded at 10 p.m. Tuesday to a shots fired call at an apartment complex in the area of Ardmore Avenue and 11th Street.

When they arrived, the officers encountered the armed suspect and an officer shot him, the LAPD reported.

The suspect was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police recovered a handgun they believe to be the suspect’s at the scene, along with several shell casings.
