YORKTOWN — John Murray, the 4th Earl of Dunmore and the Virginia colony’s last royal governor, will be the focus this weekend during Yorktown’s 250th anniversary of his 1775 Virginia campaign.
During the two-day commemoration, Yorktown will look back at this pivotal moment in Virginia’s history beginning with Dunmore’s flight from Williamsburg to a British ship in the York River. Activities will include military encampments, musical performances, deck tours of ships at the dock and family-friendly activities. A special ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Most of the events are free and open to the public.
In addition, the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
