The Bonner County Amateur Radio Club members are saying “CQ” to the public. “CQ” is how ham (also known as amateur) radio operators initiate a contact, and it means, “calling any station.” The reason they’re calling is to tell the community that they are invited to attend the annual Amateur Radio Relay League Field Day from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Edgemere Grange just south of Priest River.
Amateur radio is a popular hobby that brings people from around town to around the world and even to space without the internet or cell phones. Field Day is a major event for ham radio enthusiasts and has been since 1933. It has occurred annually since then except for the years 1942-45 due to World War II.
