CUSTER COUNTY, Mont. – A controlled burn was conducted Monday evening on the old I barn, which was no longer safe for use. The exercise served as a valuable training opportunity for new firefighters in Custer County.

Controlled burns provide recruits with real-life fire exposure in a safe, supervised environment. This hands-on experience is crucial for building confidence and enhancing decision-making skills. Experienced instructors guide the recruits through the dynamics of live fires, including heat and smoke, to ensure safety during actual fire responses.

The burn was a success, although smoke may still be visible in the area for the next few days.
