The San Francisco Giants are getting a major roster overhaul following a lifeless recent skid, with three spots on their roster getting a change. On Wednesday morning, the team announced that veteran first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. had been designated for assignment, as had backup catcher Sam Huff. Also losing his roster spot is infielder Christian Koss, who has been optioned to AAA Sacramento.

To take those three spots, the Giants are signing veteran first baseman and outfielder Dominic Smith to a Major League contract, and purchasing the contracts of outfielder Daniel Johnson and catcher Andrew Knizner from AAA Sacramento.
