WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Job Corps Association has filed a motion for a temporary restraining order in U.S. District Court to stop the U.S. Department of Labor's closure of 99 Job Corps campuses around the nation.
The closures include the Excelsior Springs Job Corps, impacting over 500 students on that campus. The closures are expected to impact over 20,000 students nationwide.
Many of these students were either homeless or in foster care prior to arriving at Job Corps. Graduates of the program go on to work in fields such as shipbuilding, construction, healthcare, and manufacturing.
The Department of Labor had announced the closures on May 29th in line with President Donald Trump's ongoing budget proposal. Along with its legal action, the NJCA is calling on the Trump administ
