BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Two men from Yonkers were arrested on Friday in connection with the theft of used cooking grease from a restaurant on Transit Road, Amherst police announced.
Officials said police saw suspicious activity behind the restaurant, where the commercial container of grease was located, just before 5:30 a.m.
The two men, identified as 31-year-old Yoandry Paulino-Tejada and 41-year-old Christhian Valdez Ruiz, were allegedly found with a box truck and in possession of around 1,400 gallons of cooking grease.
"Used cooking grease theft has become an increasing problem across the region, as the material is often repurposed into biofuels and animal feed, making it a valuable commodity," Amherst police said.
