Lincoln, NE — Governor Jim Pillen signed the "Stand with Women Act" into law on Wednesday morning, a move that has sparked significant discussion across the state.

The legislation, known as LB89 and introduced by Senator Kathleen Kauth, mandates that students from kindergarten through postsecondary education can only participate in sports teams that align with their gender assigned at birth.

"This bill is really a big deal for our young people, for our kids, stand up for women, and it’s a big deal to stand up for the values of Nebraska that all of us believe in," Pillen said. "We have the courage to say it is time. It is time that we get comfortable being uncomfortable talking about what’s really important."
