What's more, a new study has found that many people with high blood pressure don't even know they have it, and that lack of awareness may be on the rise.

The study, which ran from 2013 to 2023, looked at 15,000 U.S. adults age 20 and up who were living with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. Results indicated that a growing group of people, especially young adults and women, are unaware of their high blood pressure, while knowledge of having diabetes and high cholesterol remained stable during the study period. As of 2023, an estimated 1 in 6 U.S. adults were unaware they had high blood pressure.
