George Takei is looking back at a formative time in his life in a new book.

PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at It Rhymes with Takei , a new graphic memoir forthcoming from the Star Trek actor and activist, 88, and Top Shelf Productions next week on June 10.

Created alongside writers Steven Scott and Justin Eisinger and illustrator Harmony Becker — the team that worked on Takei’s 2019 bestseller They Called Us Enemy — the new book, It Rhymes With Takei recounts the author’s experience coming out as gay at age 68, and becoming the LGBTQ+ icon he’s known as today.
