Providence police say a complaint about finances at the NAACP has been referred to the FBI.
A complaint about the local branch of the NAACP that was "financial in nature" and was filed by NAACP leaders at the national level was received by Providence police and turned over to the FBI, according to the department's deputy chief.
Speaking on Wednesday, June 4, the department's No. 2 commanding officer, Tim O'Hara, said that Providence police had determined that the issue cited in the complaint was "multijurisdictional."
The NAACP's chief of field, Dominik Whitehead, said in a news release that the association's general counsel filed the report with police "for further investigation into the former branch leadership's actions."
