CROWN POINT — As high school seniors are set to graduate this week, residents have been "adopting" dozens of the students as a sign of appreciation that has now become a yearly tradition.

Through the "Adopt a Senior" Facebook group, parents and families post a brief bio about their seniors and their favorite items and interests. Individuals can then choose which students they want to "adopt" and communicate with the families to arrange the delivery of the gift baskets for the students.

The tradition first started in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent shutdown that forced students to miss out on in-person end-of-school festivities. The program has now sponsored hundreds of graduating Crown Point seniors over the past five years.
