The issue of whether or not the Manchester School District should become a department of the city will not be put to voters in the form of a ballot question this fall, following a vote by aldermen this week.
A motion to put the matter on the municipal ballot this November failed Tuesday night, with Aldermen Chris Morgan, Norm Vincent, Pat Long, Tony Sapienza, Bill Barry, Jim Burkush, Dan O’Neil, Christine Fajardo, and Dan Goonan opposed.
June 3 was the deadline for aldermen to vote in favor of a ballot question for it to have any chance of being ready for November. While the school district isn’t a city department, aldermen currently must approve its budget.
