COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — More than 60 students graduated Wednesday morning in ceremony took place in an atypical place, a local prison.
All of the 62 graduates are inmates at the Muscogee County Prison. They are the prison’s largest class to graduate from the Adult Education program, a partnership between the prison and Columbus Technical College.
“Muscogee County prison was recognized this year by the Department of Corrections for having the most GEDs obtained in all of the county camps in the state of Georgia,” said Muscogee County Prison Warden Herbert Walker III.
It’s the second time the prison has earned that award.
Seventeen inmates earned their GEDs through the program, but it also offers tracks for forklift safety, welding, carpentry and more.
