JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A proposed immigration ordinance in Jacksonville is drawing strong reactions from both supporters and critics ahead of a final City Council vote set for Tuesday.
The legislation, introduced by Councilmember Rory Diamond, would require the mayor to submit a detailed report to the City Council's Finance Committee by June 30, 2025.
That report would include information on all federal grants received by the city, existing diversity and inclusion employment policies, and the number of "undocumented" residents living in public housing.
Diamond tells First Coast News the ordinance is designed to ensure that taxpayer dollars are reserved for Jacksonville residents.
"The issue that we’re having in Jacksonville is we have illegal aliens who are getting public services,"
