ELBA, N.Y. (WIVB) -- For more than 40 years, farmers in Genesee County have been helping to grow future generations' interest in agriculture with their annual "Kinderfarming" event.

This year, they held the event on Wednesday at Post Dairy Farm in Elba and had a variety of stations with activities for students to do.

"Agriculture in Genesee County is the backbone of our economy" said Shelly Stein, a volunteer at Stein Farms. "Everybody eats right, so we want kids to know where their food comes from."

Around 40 farms had volunteers to help teach the many aspects of agriculture to over 600 kindergarteners who attended the event, including how it's evolving.
