EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Another scam is popping up on phones across the Tri-State with threats about an unpaid traffic ticket.
It’s a scam seen all across the country.
The text claims to be from the “Indiana Department of Vehicles,” the first of many red flags.
"It was kind of ham-handed because they refer to the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles, which Indiana has a Bureau of Motor Vehicles,” says Sheriff Noah Robinson.
The text message is coming from random phone numbers or long, complicated email addresses. It threatens to suspend your vehicle registration and your driving privileges, as well as affect your credit score.
