MINOT, ND (KXNET) — A measure that would have introduced a half-cent sales tax to help fund a brand-new fieldhouse was shot down Tuesday evening. 1,933 people in Minot voted on the proposal over the last week, and the measure fell short by 25 ballots.
In addition to funding the construction of the proposed 30,000 square foot fieldhouse, the proposal would have cut property taxes by 40% and helped cover the costs of operating current facilities.
Minot Park District officials have expressed that while yesterday's vote put a sizable dent in their plans, they remain optimistic for what the city's future may hold.
