SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A morning kitchen fire at Hangry's Restaurant in Spokane Valley was started by grease buildup, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD).

The fire department says the fire was reported just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday and was quickly extinguished by responding firefighters.

SVFD investigators determined that the grease fire spread quickly due to a buildup of grease around the stovetop and on the kitchen's hood suppression system. That buildup prevented the system from activating and putting out the fire.

The fire department says the fire is a reminder that commercial kitchens need to have their kitchen hood suppression systems serviced annually.

Commercial restaurants also need to regularly inspect their fire suppression heads for grease accumulation
