TEMPLE, Texas — Bell County Public Health District confirmed its first case of measles just one day after closing its Temple clinic due to significant federal funding cuts, creating additional challenges for residents seeking health services.

The measles case involves an unvaccinated adult Bell County resident, District Director Amy Yeager said.

"All we can report is that it's an adult who was unvaccinated and they're a resident of Bell County," Yeager said. "We've begun the investigation. The first thing we're looking into is did this person have any international or domestic travel, especially in the period of time where they may have either contracted measles or been contagious but asymptomatic and potentially exposed to anyone."
