SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Three managers of the El Dorado Hills-based company SweepsCoach have plead guilty to operating an illegal gambling business.
The United States Department of Justice says that James Mecham, Kurt Stocks, and Heidi Edwards admitted to managing businesses that facilitated illegal gambling in California and Arizona.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith, the defendants marketed their gaming operation and collaborated with internet cafés to set up gaming terminals. These terminals allowed players to use credits for slot machine-style games, with potential winnings exchanged for money.
The operation was illegal under California and Arizona laws. Law enforcement undercover operations confirmed the illegal activities at several internet cafés.
