Last week, I posted a picture of my 13 year-old daughter in her graduation gown from St. Anne’s School in Porterville. In the pictures she was beaming, her smile full of promise, pride, and the kind of innocent joy every child should feel on a day like that.
Then came the comment:
“Congratulations, now send her ass back to México.”
I’ve received hundreds of hateful, threatening messages over the years.. As a public figure serving as X, as a Chicano man advocating for farmworkers and frontline families, I’ve had to develop thick skin. I’ve read messages that call me every slur in the book. I’ve had people wish me harm.
But this was different.
