BOISE, Idaho — Five Alaskan husky sled dogs that were seized from a Valley County property in February after being found severely malnourished are thriving at their new home in Oregon. They're preparing for a possible return to competitive sled dog racing.
The dogs were taken into custody by Valley County Sheriff's deputies on Feb. 11, 2025, following a complaint of alleged animal cruelty at the property. Court documents indicate two other dogs on the property died from neglect.
All were "deprived of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter" from a six-week time frame of Jan. 1, 2025, to Febuary 11, 2025, according to the case's criminal complaint.
The former musher and former owner of the dogs is McCall man, Kevin Daugherty. He has been charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cr
