The owner of an upmarket restaurant on The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells has withdrawn his application which aimed to formalise the use of a strip of pavement used for additional outdoor seating.

The piece of ground outside champagne and seafood bar, The Old Fish Market, is 1.5m deep and is on the end of a seating area for which permission was given in 2013. Matthew Sankey had been making the 'continuous use' case - that it was used in this way for the past 10 years.

Mr Sankey told KentLive he'd withdrawn the application and he expected agreement regarding the seating area would be reached soon. The application was due to go before Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's planning committee's meeting on May 28, a meeting which was cancelled.
