NEWPORT BEACH – Three 18-year-old Riverside men have been charged in connection with the shooting of a man in a foot in Newport Beach.
David Camilio Pennington was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and assault with a firearm, both felonies, with sentencing enhancements for discharge of a firearm and personal use of a firearm.
Co-defendants Saul Ernesto Chavez and Esaul Arriaga both pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault with a gun, carrying a loaded unregistered gun in public and being an accessory after the fact, all felonies.
The shooting happened about 7:40 p.m. Sunday at Oceanfront and 23rd Street, according to Newport Beach police Sgt. Steven Oberon.
Three rounds rang out with one wounding the victim’s foot, Oberon said.
