THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS
The use of nondisclosure agreements as a means to silence victims of sexual abuse has for too long stood as a grotesque, if legal, corruption of the spirit of our rule of law.
The term “NDA” has been around for a long time, but it entered the vernacular for many of us either around the time of the pedophilia scandal in the Catholic Church, or with the #MeToo movement that took off after investigative reporters exposed Harvey Weinstein’s horrible abuse of women.
The idea that a legal arrangement could perpetually stop an abuse victim speaking out offends the idea of justice, and it too often has led to greater pain for those who were harmed.
We are proud of the Texas Legislature for saying that this instrument will no longer be available to abusers in our state.
