VALPARAISO — Police have revealed that a child was opening the door to a local apartment unit Monday night just as a 24-year-old man he knew was fatally shot six times before falling into the apartment.

Valparaiso police say 24-year-old Kuran Kinley, of Valparaiso, shot and killed Jayveon Triplett because he was angry Triplett was continuing to visit the apartment in the 1900 block of Chicago Street while Kinley's child was present.

Triplett was dating a female at the apartment, who was both pregnant with his child and the mother of Kinley's child, according to a newly-filed charging document.

"Kinley advised that he believed that Triplett was unarmed and going away from him," police said.
