ATLANTA — During a recent interview with The Georgia Vote , Republican U.S. Senate candidate John King said Georgia's Democratic Senators ignored his request for assistance for Afghan allies in 2021 as the nation fell into Taliban control.

But documents recently obtained by the 11Alive Political Team raise questions about those claims.

The claim

In a May 27 interview, King, a retired military officer, said Afghans he worked with called him for help as the country collapsed in the summer of 2021.

"I was getting calls from Afghans saying 'can you help get me out?'" said King. "I called both Senator Ossoff and Senator Warnock and I said 'I need some help.'"
