BOSTON (WPRI) — The Boston Bruins are bringing back one of their own to lead the team.

Marco Sturm was named the 30th head coach of the Bruins on Thursday. The 46-year-old has been the head coach of the the AHL's Ontario Reign for the past three seasons.

"As a former Bruin, he understands what this team means to the city and our fans," General Manager Don Sweeney said. "We’re embracing a new direction with Marco behind the bench and are confident his energy, standards, and commitment to a competitive, hard-nosed brand of hockey reflect exactly what Bruins hockey should be."

The Dingolfing, Germany, native played for Boston, Florida, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and San Jose from 1997 to 2012.

While in Boston, he scored some big goals, including a playoff winner against the Montreal Canadien
