WASHINGTON (WCHS) — The U.S. Department of the Interior announced $130 million will be used to invest in coal production, including allocations for West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

The Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program aims to generate jobs, develop infrastructure and produce energy, according to a news release from the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.

The news release outlined eligible states and tribes that will select projects to support local needs:

$28.67 million each for West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania

$11 million each for Ohio, Virginia and Alabama

$3.67 million each for the Crow Tribe, Hopi Tribe and Navajo Nation
