POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A hiker in distress was rescued safely Wednesday evening from the Low Gap Trail at Natural Bridge State Resort Park.

According to Powell County Search and Rescue, crews were called to the area just before 5 p.m. after reports of a hiker needing help. Rescuers, along with EMS and park rangers, made contact around 5:20 p.m. and began providing care.

Officials say the hiker was able to walk out of the woods with assistance and was further evaluated after exiting the trail.

Crews remind all visitors to the Red River Gorge area to come prepared with water, snacks, and appropriate clothing for the weather.
