Woman shot and killed husband as he went after dog with cane following an attack

CEDAR FALLS, IA (KWWL)- A woman is in jail following the death of her husband Wednesday evening.

Police say they were called about a person being shot during a domestic dispute on Newland drive at 6:32 pm.

66-year-old Kimberly Ann Charlton was arrested after police found 72-year-old David Alan Charlton dead with a gunshot wound. According to an affidavit, Kimberly reported to 911 , that she had just shot her husband in the back, while he was chasing the dog.

The court document states Kimberly told police there was a verbal altercation with David. She said, David attempted to physically assault her but their dog stopped the assault.
