Solange Knowles has said that her life is divided into two distinct parts : the time before and the time after the 2019 release of her fourth studio album, When I Get Home . Throughout the ambient project, which includes a striking film accompaniment, she crafts a love letter to her hometown of Houston, speaking to her experiences as a Black woman raised in the South and paying homage to the Black artistic landscape that has shaped—and still shapes—Texas.
